On June 21, 2018, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in favor of the state in South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc. The decision allows states to tax remote sales. To read all the “fun” details, you can check out this link from Avalara, the company that we’re working with to ensure we are complying with this law: https://www.avalara.com/us/en/learn/sales-tax/south-dakota-wayfair.html.
In order to comply with this law, SugarWOD has applied the appropriate sales tax to your bill in states where the law applies.
In terms of impact on you and your business, this means that, depending on which State or County you live in, your SugarWOD bill may have begun including this required state tax in mid-June 2021. Since each state is different, the amount of tax will be different depending on your business location, and certain states may not require this tax at all. Your SugarWOD bill will automatically include the correct state tax as calculated by Avalara. To find out the amount that will be added, you can use their Sales Tax Calculator found here: https://www.avalara.com/taxrates/en/calculator.html.
